The Keweenaw Market Association (KMA) is dedicated to empowering small-scale businesses—especially youth and those in agricultural and artisan crafts—through opportunities and support that foster growth, sustainability, and community connections.
Our first summer market season is in the books. The KMA board worked with local community memebers to further goals and start new projects. We connected with vendors to better understand their needs and what makes the farmer's market thrive.
Special quorum held to discuss market spending and financial plans. KMA looks at vendors needs and how we can support them with reduced spending. It is important to get the word out to our community to fill support direct access food systems.
Catch a glimpse of history in the making! We've just posted a video of our very first KMA meeting to our YouTube channel. Watch as we form the foundation of our organization, create by-laws, and discuss how we plan to support vendors and strengthen our community. Don't miss this milestone moment—check it out now!
The Formation of KMA: A New Chapter for Local Markets
We are thrilled to announce the formation of the Keweenaw Market Association (KMA), a new organization committed to fostering growth, connection, and opportunity for small-scale businesses across our community. Our mission is to support youth, agricultural producers, and artisans while building vibrant marketplaces that celebrate local talent and strengthen community bonds.
A Growing Vision
KMA was born from a shared belief in the power of markets to drive economic growth, bring people together, and showcase the unique character of our region. We are still expanding and shaping the structure of our organization, guided by our core values of collaboration, inclusivity, and, most importantly, transparency. From the beginning, transparency has been at the heart of KMA’s foundation. We are dedicated to open communication and accountability, ensuring our practices align with the needs of both vendors and the community.
Introducing Two Markets
KMA has already made incredible progress, and we’re excited to announce the launch of two markets that will serve as platforms for vendors to thrive and for the community to connect:
Chassell Farmers Market: Set in the welcoming Chassell Centennial Park Pavilion, this market offers local vendors a chance to showcase their products while engaging with the community. It’s shaping up to be a lively hub of activity, perfect for residents and visitors alike.
Hancock Tori Market: Reviving a cherished tradition, the Hancock Tori Market will take place on Quincy Green, right in the heart of downtown Hancock. Running every Saturday from June through September, this new market will provide fresh produce, handmade goods, and a space to celebrate our local talent while continuing the spirit of past Hancock markets.
Looking to the Future
While KMA is still growing, our vision is clear. We aim to empower local businesses through resources, support, and opportunities that help them thrive. Our organization will work hand-in-hand with vendors and the community to create lasting benefits for all.
We look forward to keeping you updated as we continue to develop and expand our initiatives. Together, we can build something truly special—a network of markets that uplifts businesses, connects neighbors, and celebrates the best of the Keweenaw.
